About Ian Mitchell

With more than two decades of experience in complex residential leasehold law, Ian leads the Leasehold Services Team from our Streatham and London Bridge offices. Known for his clear, strategic advice and practical approach, he is committed to giving clients confidence and certainty throughout the legal process.

Ian advises leaseholders and freeholders on all aspects of statutory rights relating to flat ownership, including the right to manage, lease extensions, collective enfranchisement, rights of first refusal, and wider block management issues.

A recognised authority in the leasehold sector and a respected leasehold reform specialist, Ian has been a partner at Anthony Gold since May 2010. He has helped develop important legal protections for leaseholders, particularly in relation to the “right of subrogation” and “discretionary vesting orders” following company dissolution. He also has extensive litigation experience and regularly represents clients in complex disputes before the First-tier Tribunal and higher courts.

Ian has frequently advised the UK government on proposed leasehold reform and is a sought-after speaker at industry conferences and professional events.

Ian and his team have extensive experience handling enfranchisement and lease extension claims involving many of London’s major estates, including the Grosvenor, Portman, Cadogan, and Howard de Walden Estates, as well as the Crown Estate, local authority freeholders, and the Bona Vacantia Division of the Treasury Solicitor. They also act for leaseholders and landlords across Greater London’s suburbs.
