Many of our clients have their first meeting and the early stages of their cases paid for by the Legal Help Scheme. Under this scheme, those who are financially eligible are entitled to have a limited amount of work carried out without having to pay anything towards this themselves.
If you are on Income Support or income-based Jobseekers' Allowance you will nearly always be automatically entitled to assistance under the Legal Help Scheme.
If you are on a low income you may also be eligible, although it is necessary to carry out calculations to work out if your income is within the boundaries. If you have a gross income of £2,000 per month or more, you will not be eligible. If your income is less than this, you may be eligible depending on what your outgoings are and the size of your family.
Everyone, whether they are on benefits or working, is only entitled to Legal Help if they have savings of less than £3,000.
